And the answer: In doubles, the server must serve such that the first bounce is in the right box on his side of the net, and the second bounce is in the receiver's right box on receiver's side. I believe the server can stand anywhere behind the table but must be able to accomplish such as serve.

I have been searching over the internet after jumping on to this website wanting to know if there are any other variations of ping pong tables? I have recently got into the game and have been interested in other variations of tables once I saw the x-table and also the other table top designs. So if anyone could help out, that would be great. Hi Dave, Their house rule deviates from official rules, a legal serve can actually bounce any number of times on the opponent's side. Interestingly though, I have heard of that "variation" before. Another player asked the same question a few months ago, so it might be a common misconception or informal rule.

I had a game on holiday in Spain a couple of years ago. The house rules were that the serve had to touch the server's side once, pass over the net, and then touch the receiver's side with enough velocity so that it wouldn't bounce twice, i.e. The 2nd 'bounce' would be beyond the end of the table.
Since my serve is a slow slide/back spin wonder, I had to change it considerably, and lost the match. They insisted the rule was correct. Anyone heard of such a variation before?

pinger: If the serve touches the net, it is a Let (assuming it otherwise is a good service). A let is played over, meaning that the point is not counted and the server serves again.

Wondering if anyone has used Stiga Destroyer long pips either with no sponge (OX) or 1.0mm. What did you think of it? Did 1.0mm sponge make chopping difficult? What are strengths and weaknesses?

hi iam currently doing some conceptal
art on the idea of a ping pong cirus
with diffrent sizes and shapes of tables paddles balls ...it started out with paddles but your tables are nice and i have seen 3 sided and mini tables
it would be intrestng to have one made as large as a tennis ball anyway i agree ping pong as it is now is way too standardized and needs some inventive hybrid vigor and colour to make a great game more intresting and avalable to the the masses i applaude your efforts

I want to clarify my answer to Derek. Of course a legal serve must bounce at least once on the opponent's side but there is no upper limit on the number of bounces.

CSBear, No, that is not a let and the point goes to the receiver. The ball is "in play" as soon as it leaves your ball-tossing hand. It would only be a let if the receiver was not ready or there was a disturbance outside your control (see section 2.9 of the official rules).

Question: If I am serving, i toss the ball up 6 inches, take a swing at it with my paddle, but miss it completely. Since i didn't touch the ball yet, is that a "let", meaning that i can serve again and no point was scored?

Quick question, I heard somewhere that for service, the ball has to hit the opponents side of the table and then be able to fall off on the next bounce to be a legal service (meaning no short serves).
